Set Up Discord Notifications
A step-by-step guide to creating a Discord webhook, connecting it to PhotonOdds, routing EV+ and dropping-odds alerts, and checking delivery.
Why use Discord for alerts
Discord is the quickest way to send PhotonOdds alerts into one dedicated text channel. PhotonOdds does not need access to your Discord account or server. Instead, Discord gives that channel a webhook URL: a private delivery address that lets PhotonOdds post alert messages there.
Use Discord when you want a shared channel, a separate alert feed, or Discord's desktop and mobile notifications. Each PhotonOdds account can connect one Discord destination. You can route EV+ opportunities, dropping-odds alerts, or both to it.
An alert tells you that a signal matched your rules. It is a prompt to review the opening price, timing, limits, and currently available odds—not a bet instruction. The Drop Model explains the read that should follow an alert.
Before you begin
You need:
- A Discord server where you can create a webhook. In a shared server, this usually means you need the Manage Webhooks permission for the destination channel.
- A text channel for PhotonOdds messages. A dedicated channel such as
#photonodds-alertsis easier to scan than a busy general channel. - A signed-in PhotonOdds account with at least one alert rule you want to receive.
Do not paste a webhook URL into public chat, a support ticket, or a screenshot. Anyone with the full URL can post messages to that channel. If it is exposed, delete or regenerate the webhook in Discord and replace it in PhotonOdds.
1. Create a channel webhook in Discord
Discord's labels can vary a little between desktop, web, and mobile, but the setup lives in your server's integrations area.
- Open the Discord server that should receive alerts.
- Create or select the target text channel.
- Open the server name menu, then choose Server Settings.
- Open Integrations, then find Webhooks.
- Select Create Webhook.
- Give it a clear name such as
PhotonOddsand select the destination channel. - Choose Copy Webhook URL. Keep the copied value private.
The URL must begin with https://discord.com/api/webhooks/. PhotonOdds validates that prefix before it saves the channel. Discord's own webhook guide also covers creating, moving, and deleting webhooks.
A note for shared servers
Create one webhook in a channel whose membership matches the people who should see the alerts. A webhook posts into that channel; it does not send direct messages to every member. If you later move the webhook to another channel, check that its notification permissions still suit the group.
2. Connect the webhook in PhotonOdds
- Open Notifications settings while signed in.
- In Channels, find Discord and select Connect Discord.
- Paste the webhook URL you copied from Discord into Discord webhook URL.
- Select Save & connect.
- Confirm the Discord card changes to Connected.
Connecting the channel only gives PhotonOdds a delivery destination. It does not turn on any signal type by itself.
3. Choose which alerts Discord receives
In the Alert routing section, select the Discord control for each signal you want to receive:
- EV+ opportunities sends newly detected positive-EV markets that match your rules.
- Dropping-odds alerts sends meaningful price movement that matches your rules.
The control saves immediately. When it is active, the Discord card remains connected and that feature is enabled for the channel. You can turn one feature off without deleting the webhook or changing the other feature.
Start with a selective rule. Configuring Drop Alerts That Don't Spam You is a useful companion when deciding the percentage, time-window, and limit filters that should earn your attention.
Verify it worked
There is no test-message button because notifications are sent only when a real matching signal is detected. Verify the setup in three parts:
- The Discord channel card shows Connected.
- At least one desired routing control is active.
- When a future signal matches an enabled rule, check Recent activity at the bottom of Notifications settings. A successful send appears as a Discord delivery record; the corresponding message appears in your Discord channel.
Messages show detection-time snapshots. A price, edge, or available bookmaker may have changed by the time you read it. Keep the Glossary nearby if you need a quick definition while reviewing a signal.
Troubleshooting
“Discord webhook URL must start with…”
You copied something other than Discord's full webhook URL. Return to Server Settings → Integrations → Webhooks, select the PhotonOdds webhook, and use Copy Webhook URL. A channel invite link and a webhook URL are different things.
I cannot create a webhook
You likely do not have permission to manage webhooks in that server or channel. Ask the server owner or an administrator to create the webhook in the intended channel, then provide the URL only through a private, trusted route.
The channel is connected but nothing arrives
Check that at least one routing control is active and that a rule can actually match. An alert is produced only when an opportunity or drop meets your saved conditions. A very restrictive rule can correctly produce no notifications.
Then check Recent activity. A failed entry points to a delivery problem; no entry means no matching alert was sent for that channel yet.
The channel says Disabled
PhotonOdds disables a channel after repeated failed sends so it does not keep sending to a broken destination. The webhook may have been deleted, the server may have changed access, or the URL may no longer be valid. Create or copy a current webhook, choose Reconnect Discord, save it, and re-enable the routing you want.
I shared the webhook URL
Treat it as compromised. Delete that webhook in Discord or create a replacement, then update the URL in PhotonOdds. Do not rely on deleting the message that exposed it; someone may already have copied the address.
Keep the feed useful
Discord is most useful when its notifications are selective enough to read calmly. Keep a separate channel for alerts, start with fewer rule types, and adjust one rule lever at a time. An alert can be useful even when the correct action is to wait or pass.
